Standard Occupational Classification (SOC): Physicians

Physicians, also known as doctors, are healthcare professionals who are trained to diagnose and treat illnesses, injuries, and other health conditions. They typically complete a four-year undergraduate degree, followed by four years of medical school, and then several years of specialized training, known as a residency, in a specific medical field.

There are many different types of physicians, including:

Family Medicine Physicians: They provide primary care to individuals and families, treating a wide range of medical conditions

Pediatrics Physicians: They provide medical care to infants, children, and adolescents

Obstetricians and Gynecologists: They specialize in women’s reproductive health, including pregnancy and childbirth

Surgeons: They perform surgical procedures to treat diseases and injuries

Anesthesiologists: They administer anesthesia and manage pain during surgical procedures

Radiologists: They use imaging techniques such as X-rays, MRI and CT scans to diagnose and treat medical conditions.

Most physicians work in private practice, hospitals, clinics, or other healthcare facilities. They often collaborate with other healthcare professionals, such as nurses and physician assistants, to provide comprehensive care to their patients.
