Innovation Lifecycle Management: Bias

Cognitive biases or thinking mistakes (errors in reasoning and judgement) make healthcare officers less willing to adopt innovation, even when the initiatives are superior to the existing practice. Research and tests show that sometimes even simple and careful interventions such as behavioural interventions can remove these biases, encourage the uptake of innovations, and eventually help hospitals focus on initiatives that provide better patient outcomes. Healthcare professionals may be reluctant to switch from existing practices to new ones. There may be a variety of reasons for this. However, there may be behavioural reasons also such as psychological differences among healthcare professionals that hamper adoption and diffusion of the innovation at a hospital.
