Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS): Bundled Payments for Care Improvement (BPCI)

Bundled payments for care improvement (BPCI) is a type of advanced alternative payment model (APM) used in the healthcare industry. In a BPCI arrangement, a single payment is made to a healthcare provider or group of providers for all the medical services required to treat a specific condition or perform a specific procedure. This payment covers the full episode of care, from the initial consultation through to recovery, and includes the services of all providers involved in the patient’s care. The goal of BPCI is to improve the coordination and quality of care, while also reducing costs. BPCI arrangements can be either voluntary or mandatory, and providers may be at financial risk if they are unable to manage the costs of care effectively.
