Health inequities and escalating mental health needs are increasingly evident through the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and national turmoil. Some of the communities most affected by these public health crises are at the highest risk for not receiving mental health care. There are many reasons for this disconnect, including lack of available providers, long wait times, personal obstacles to attending appointments, and financial concerns. Digital therapeutic treatments can and do play a role in bridging gaps in behavioral health. They transcend care access limitations due to geography, socioeconomic status, trust of traditional institutions and more. They also provide a much-needed treatment alternative when typical medications and therapy are not effective for an individual patient.
Emerging treatments in behavioral health allow individuals to access care solutions when, where and how works best for them. But health insurance providers also seek to understand when it makes sense to incorporate these new treatments. This webinar delves into five key criteria for both identifying and evaluating high-quality, clinically proven digital therapeutic solutions.
Digital therapeutics expand treatment possibilities for complex behavioral health conditions. For example, 98% of panic disorder patients have at least one behavioral health comorbidity such as major depressive disorder, anxiety disorder or alcohol use disorders (Virpi, 2012).
