HIMSS22: XR Brings a New Reality in Virtual Medicine
Imagine being able to manage chronic back pain without having to take a strong prescription medication, or learning how to successfully control emotional eating or smoking triggers using virtual technology. These are just a few of the medical applications of extended reality that Dr. Brennan Spiegel, director of health services research for Cedars-Sinai Health System, described during a recent HIMSS22 digital session.
XR devices combine digital and physical environments by using virtual reality and augmented reality to create an extended or mixed reality. XR is the next phase of VR and AR. It’s the fusion of virtual environments and real environments.
