Sewing Machine Operators in healthcare may work in a variety of settings such as in hospitals, clinics, rehabilitation centers, and nursing homes to create and repair textiles and clothing items such as gowns, scrubs, bed linens, and curtains. They may also be responsible for maintaining and repairing equipment and keeping inventory of materials. In a hospital setting, they may help to create isolation gowns and other personal protective equipment (PPE) in response to a pandemic or other health crisis. They may work with a team of other sewing machine operators and report to a supervisor or manager. Knowledge of industrial sewing machines and sewing techniques is essential for this role, as well as experience working with a wide variety of fabrics, patterns, and designs.
