Standard Occupational Classification (SOC): Occupational Therapy and Physical Therapist Assistants and Aides

Occupational therapy and physical therapist assistants (OTAs and PTAs) and aides in healthcare work under the supervision of occupational therapists and physical therapists to provide therapy services to patients. They must be able to work well with patients of all ages, and be able to communicate effectively with patients, families, and other healthcare professionals. To perform their role effectively, occupational therapy and physical therapist assistants and aides in healthcare should have knowledge of the healthcare industry, and be familiar with the principles and techniques of occupational therapy and physical therapy. They should also possess knowledge of laws and regulations related to occupational therapy and physical therapy and be able to work under the supervision of an occupational therapist or physical therapist. Additionally, they should have effective communication skills to be able to work with patients, families, and other healthcare professionals.
