Standard Occupational Classification (SOC): Miscellaneous Plant and System Operators

Miscellaneous Plant and System Operators in Healthcare are responsible for maintaining and operating various systems and equipment that are used to support the functioning of a healthcare facility. These systems may include heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems (HVAC); plumbing; medical gas systems; electrical systems; and other types of mechanical equipment. The operators typically work behind the scenes to ensure that these systems are running efficiently and effectively, and that they meet the needs of the facility and its patients.

They may also be responsible for performing routine maintenance, troubleshooting and repairs on systems as needed, and keeping detailed records of system performance and maintenance activities. They may work in hospitals, nursing homes, clinics, and other healthcare facilities. The scope of their work will be different from other fields and manufacturing but mainly focus on health care facilities and the equipment used there.
