Standard Occupational Classification (SOC): History Teachers, Postsecondary

It is not typical for history teachers at the postsecondary level to be employed in healthcare facilities. History teachers at the postsecondary level are responsible for teaching college or university students about the history of specific time periods, regions, or themes. They may teach courses in a variety of historical subjects, such as ancient history, European history, or U.S. history. In addition to teaching, history teachers at the postsecondary level may also be responsible for conducting research and publishing articles or books in their field of expertise. To be successful in this field, history teachers at the postsecondary level should have a strong understanding of the subject matter they are teaching, as well as excellent communication and teaching skills. They should also be able to inspire and engage their students in the study of history.
