Standard Occupational Classification (SOC): Helpers--Pipelayers, Plumbers, Pipefitters, and Steamfitters

Pipelayers, plumbers, pipefitters, and steamfitters in healthcare facilities are responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing the facility’s plumbing systems. This may include tasks such as laying pipes, connecting pipes to fixtures and appliances, and installing and repairing plumbing fixtures such as sinks, toilets, and showers. These workers may also be responsible for maintaining and repairing heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems, as well as installing and repairing medical gas systems. In addition to their technical skills, pipelayers, plumbers, pipefitters, and steamfitters in healthcare facilities must also have strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently or as part of a team. They must also be able to follow safety procedures and regulations carefully, as they may be working with potentially hazardous materials and equipment.
