They may supervise the work of mechanics, installers, and repairers who maintain and repair medical equipment, heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems, elevators, and other mechanical and electrical systems. They may also be responsible for scheduling and coordinating maintenance and repair work, and ensuring that all work is performed in compliance with safety and regulatory standards.
In healthcare, first-line supervisors of mechanics, installers, and repairers are responsible for ensuring that all medical equipment is in good working order and is safe to use, as well as ensuring that the facility’s HVAC, lighting and other systems are working properly. They may also be responsible for developing and implementing preventive maintenance programs to minimize equipment downtime and prolong the life of equipment.
