Standard Occupational Classification (SOC): Farm Equipment Mechanics and Service Technicians

Farm equipment mechanics and service technicians are responsible for maintaining and repairing farm machinery and equipment. I’m not aware of farm equipment mechanics and service technicians working in the healthcare industry. These workers typically work in the agriculture or forestry industry and their duties may include:

Inspecting, diagnosing, and troubleshooting problems with farm machinery and equipment

Repairs and maintains equipment such as tractors, harvesters, and irrigation systems

Replacing worn or damaged parts, such as gears, bearings, and seals Performing routine maintenance tasks, such as lubricating and cleaning equipment

Maintaining records of repairs and maintenance performed

Providing technical assistance and support to farmers and other equipment users

To become a farm equipment mechanic or service technician, you typically need a high school diploma or equivalent and undergo on-the-job training. Some employers may require additional education or certification, such as a certificate from a technical school or industry association. Farm equipment mechanics and service technicians should have strong mechanical skills and be able to read and interpret technical manuals and diagrams. They should also be able to work independently and be able to troubleshoot problems effectively.
