Laying bricks, blocks, or stone to construct or repair walls, foundations, and other structures Cutting and shaping bricks, blocks, or stone to fit specific dimensions and patterns Installing or repairing brick, block, or stone veneers, facades, and other decorative features Using a variety of tools and equipment, such as trowels, chisels, hammers, and saws Working with architects, engineers, and other professionals to plan and execute construction projects Ensuring that all work meets industry standards and regulations To become a brickmason, blockmason, or stonemason, individuals typically need to complete an apprenticeship program, which combines on-the-job training with classroom instruction. Apprenticeships typically last 3-4 years and provide hands-on experience working with brick, block, or stone under the supervision of experienced professionals. Upon completion of an apprenticeship, brickmasons, blockmasons, and stonemasons may choose to seek certification through a professional organization, such as the International Union of Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers or the Mason Contractors Association of America.
