Laying bricks or blocks to construct or repair walls, foundations, and other structures Cutting and shaping bricks or blocks to fit specific dimensions and patterns Installing or repairing brick or block veneers, facades, and other decorative features Using a variety of tools and equipment, such as trowels, chisels, hammers, and saws Working with architects, engineers, and other professionals to plan and execute construction projects Ensuring that all work meets industry standards and regulations To become a brickmason or blockmason, individuals typically need to complete an apprenticeship program, which combines on-the-job training with classroom instruction. Apprenticeships typically last 3-4 years and provide hands-on experience working with brick or block under the supervision of experienced professionals. Upon completion of an apprenticeship, brickmasons and blockmasons may choose to seek certification through a professional organization, such as the International Union of Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers or the Mason Contractors Association of America.
