Immediate dental implant loading is a technique in which a dental implant is placed into the jawbone and a temporary or permanent dental prosthesis (such as a crown, bridge, or denture) is attached to it immediately after the implant has been placed. This is in contrast to traditional implant placement, where the implant is allowed to heal and integrate with the jawbone for several months before a prosthesis is attached.
Immediate dental implant loading can be done in certain cases, such as when there is enough jawbone to support the implant, the implant is placed in an optimal position, the patient’s overall health is good and they are not at risk of implant failure.
The benefits of immediate dental implant loading include shorter treatment time, less surgical procedures, and improved cosmetic outcome as the patient leaves the office with a functional tooth or teeth. However, it is important to note that immediate loading is not suitable for all patients and it depends on the individual case and the evaluation of the oral surgeon and the prosthodontist.
Immediate loading may also be associated with higher failure rate than delayed loading, due to the implant not having enough time to properly integrate with the bone. That’s why the success rate of immediate loading implants is highly dependent on the quality of the surgery, the implant system and the occlusal forces.
