Healthcare is often divided into different age groups to address the unique healthcare needs of each group. The age groups most commonly used in healthcare are:
Pediatrics: This age group includes infants, children, and adolescents up to 18 years old. Pediatric healthcare focuses on the physical, emotional, and social well-being of children and includes preventive care, diagnosis, and treatment of illnesses and injuries.
Adult care: This age group includes individuals between 18 and 65 years old. Adult care focuses on the prevention and treatment of diseases and conditions that are more common in adults, such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and cancer.
Geriatrics: This age group includes individuals over 65 years old. Geriatric healthcare focuses on the unique needs of older adults, such as managing chronic conditions, preventing falls and other injuries, and addressing the social and psychological needs of older adults.
It’s worth noting that some healthcare providers such as nurses, physicians, and others will have specialized training in certain age groups, for example, pediatrics, adult, geriatrics. This specialized training allows them to provide better care for the specific population.
In some cases, healthcare providers will work with patients across different age groups, such as primary care physicians, who may see patients from pediatrics to geriatrics.
