The INTERCEPT Blood System for Plasma is a pathogen reduction system that has been designed to reduce the risk of transfusion-transmitted infections (TTI) and transfusion-associated graft-versus-host disease (TA GvHD). This system uses a broad-spectrum reduction process to eliminate pathogens and leukocytes from plasma. Studies have shown that this system is effective in reducing these risks and that the treated plasma has a proven track record of safety. In addition, it has been shown to be as effective as conventional plasma in clinical trials. The system is also designed to be efficient, as the treatment for both plasma and platelets can be done on the same Illuminator platform.
