The Artificial Iris for patients with aniridia
The CUSTOMFLEX® ARTIFICIALIRIS is a foldable iris prosthesis that is used for both medical and aesthetic reconstruction of eyes with complete or partial aniridia. The product is manufactured by HumanOptics AG and has received FDA approval, making it the only approved product of its kind currently available in the US market for addressing medical needs related to aniridia.
The artificial iris is individually custom-made to mimic the original appearance of the patient’s iris and is designed to be injectable. It is versatile, controlling the light entry with a fixed pupil aperture and opaque material. Additionally, it is biocompatible. It is important to note that the CUSTOMFLEX® ARTIFICIALIRIS is not intended for a cosmetic change of eye color. It is developed for implantation in the posterior chamber of the eye and is not suitable for placement in the anterior chamber. It is recommended that the CUSTOMFLEX® ARTIFICIALIRIS be implanted only after removal of the natural lens and IOL implantation.
