Medical Advice Viewed as 'Less' Reliable, Empathetic if Chatbot Involved

The participants were divided into three groups. While one group of participants was told that the advice came from a doctor, the second was told that it came from an AI chatbot.People rated medical advice as "less reliable and empathetic" when they believed it was provided by AI-chatbots, a new study published in the journal Nature Medicine has found. Researchers found that this was also the case when patients or medical advice seekers were made to believe that a doctor took the help of artificial intelligence (AI) before sharing his guidance. As a result, the individuals were also found to be less willing to follow AI recommendations, compared to advice from human doctors provided solely on their medical expertise, found the study led by the University of Wuerzburg in Germany.

A study published in *Nature Medicine* found that people perceive medical advice as less reliable and empathetic when they believe it comes from AI chatbots. The study, led by the University of Wuerzburg, involved over 2,000 participants who received identical medical advice but were told it came either from a doctor, an AI chatbot, or a doctor assisted by AI. Results showed that participants trusted and were more willing to follow advice from human doctors, especially when AI was not involved, highlighting concerns about AI's role in healthcare.
