Health Care Job Market Expands in August
In August, the healthcare sector experienced robust job growth, adding 70,900 positions, while the national unemployment rate climbed by 0.3 percentage points to reach 3.8%, according to the U.S. Department of Labor's Bureau of Labor Statistics. The total number of unemployed individuals rose by 514,000 to 6.4 million. Health job gains included 40,000 in ambulatory care, 17,000 in nursing and residential facilities, and 15,000 in hospitals. However, dentists' offices saw a decrease of 2,500 jobs. Other sectors with notable changes included leisure and hospitality (+40,000), social assistance (+26,000), and construction (+22,000), while transportation and warehousing experienced a loss of 34,000 jobs.
