Dentaly explores use of artificial intelligence in dentistry
A recent Dentaly survey highlights how artificial intelligence (AI) is transforming dentistry and impacting patient care. The survey shows that 35% of licensed dentists have already implemented AI in their practices, with 77% reporting positive outcomes. Around 81% of US dentists view AI positively in dentistry, recognizing its potential for improving clinical practice, streamlining workflows, and enhancing patient outcomes.
Key findings from the survey:
AI Implementation: 35% of dentists have integrated AI into their practices, primarily for image analysis (51%), diagnosis (43%), and treatment planning (38%).
Benefits of AI: The most valued benefits of AI in dentistry are faster workflows (76%), predictive analytics for patient outcomes (48%), improved diagnosis accuracy (40%), enhanced treatment planning (35%), and personalized treatment options (20%).
Concerns: While dentists acknowledge AI's potential, they have concerns regarding data privacy and security (67%), reliability and accuracy of AI systems (67%), ethical considerations (52%), implementation costs (43%), and potential job displacement (33%).
Future Impact: Dentists expect AI to bring incremental improvements to current practices (52%), while some anticipate limited impact (29%) or revolutionary changes (10%).
Adoption: 57% of respondents are open to adopting AI advancements within the next five years, with 10% very likely and 47% somewhat likely to do so.
In conclusion, while AI is showing promise in enhancing dental practices and patient care, concerns about data security, system reliability, ethics, and costs need to be addressed. Many dentists are open to incorporating AI advancements, recognizing its potential as a complementary tool to assist dental professionals rather than a replacement.
