Nursa Secures $80M to Expand Healthcare Staffing Platform
Nursa, a nationwide platform with the goal of placing a nurse by the bedside of every patient in need, has completed its executive leadership team after raising $80 million in Series B funding. Drive Capital led the funding round, with participation from existing partners Pelion and Kickstart. The move is aimed at diversifying Nursa's leadership expertise to address the increasing financial and nursing shortages in the healthcare industry.
The shortage of nurses in the healthcare workforce has been labeled a "national emergency" by the American Hospital Association, with projections indicating a deficit of 1.1 million nurses by year-end. This scarcity not only impacts operational efficiency and quality of care but also poses significant financial challenges. Hospitals can save $262,300 annually for every 1% decrease in nurse turnover.
Nursa's platform is designed to alleviate the financial burden and operational gaps caused by traditional staffing methods. With federal incentives no longer available, addressing nurse staffing shortages without incurring additional financial losses has become exceedingly difficult. Nursa's solution connects hospitals, long-term care facilities, and community organizations with qualified nurses to fill shifts, thereby optimizing resource utilization.
Molly Bonakdarpour, General Partner of Drive Capital, emphasized the limitations of staffing firms in finding specialized nurses and the unnecessary costs incurred due to contracts and inflexible staffing options. Nursa's platform enables facilities to efficiently fill shifts with qualified local nurses, eliminating the need for bulk shifts and constrained networks.
Founded in 2019, Nursa boasts nearly 300 team members across its headquarters in Salt Lake City and remote positions. The company operates as a locally driven national platform, partnering with diverse organizations in need of nurses to ensure optimal patient care. Nursa's innovative approach has attracted over $100 million in funding to date and earned the trust of more than 1,300 facilities and 95,000 nurse users.
