The Medical Futurist have already written dozens of articles about generative AI, covering every viewpoint there is, but we have never gone through the fundamentals and defined what generative AI is in the first place. This type of AI can be used for a wide range of jobs, including producing text, drawing artwork, creating music, and coming up with new ideas. Generative algorithms are trained and operate in various ways depending on the goal. There are various models and techniques, but these days we'll probably meet with just two: Think about Midjourney, Blue Willow, AIVA, or Loud.ly when considering Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs) for the generation of images or sounds. And Transformers, also referred to as Large Language Models (or LLMs), which are the brains behind text generators like ChatGPT or Bard.
