Study Reveals EHR Data Can Identify Patients Who Are Frail

Structured EHR data can be used by healthcare providers to identify frail patients using validated EFIs. To address the operational difference between CFIs and EFIs, AHRQ conducted a research. The goal of this study was to leverage linked claims-EHR databases from numerous big health systems to validate an existing CFI. The initiative offers a methodical technique that health organisations can utilise to evaluate the EHR data's quality and get it ready for the use of EFI measurements. The results showed that healthcare professionals may use structured EHR data to identify frail patients using validated EFIs; however, claims data could identify more frailty cases than EHR data. EFIs can also be utilised to enhance the forecasting of various outcomes related to healthcare utilisation. EFI may be incorporated into the model-development process of risk stratification developers and disease management by population health managers.
