These variations underline the startling inequalities linked to birthplace. The top two nations on the list, Japan and Switzerland, have life expectancies at birth of 84.3 years and 83.4 years, respectively, while the bottom two nations, Lesotho and the Central African Republic, have life expectancies at birth of 50.7 years and 53.1 years, respectively, according to data released by the World Health Organization (WHO) in 2019 - thus excluding the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.
