AMA recommends ways to optimize EHRs for better diabetes detection
The American Medical Association said health care providers can improve detection of patients at risk for type 2 diabetes by optimizing clinical decision support, patient portal and population health tools in the EHR. The AMA’s recommendations include creating EHR order sets for prediabetes management and abnormal glucose screening, generating EHR-based reports for prediabetes management eligibility, using evidence-based screening protocols and adding abnormal glucose screening recommendations as an EHR feature.
