The annual Sylvester O’Halloran Perioperative Symposium, named in his honour, was started in 1992 by the late Mr Peter Delaney.

The symposium is now conducted over three days and two locations, both GEMS on the University Hospital Limerick campus and the CERC building in University Hospital Limerick.

Since its development, it has evolved to comprise general, vascular, colorectal, breast/endocrine, orthopaedic, ENT, plastic surgery sessions as well as multidisciplinary, plenary and practical hands-on surgical educational sessions.
