The ESOU annual meeting must become the showcase of the role of European urologists as the principal caregivers in the field of genitourinary cancers. Our first challenge is to promote this role.
In oncology, individual therapy and personalised medicine jump from theory to practice very rapidly. The treatment of cancer is no longer a fight against disease in an organ but against cancerous cells that can spread out of the organ. In the future, urologists have to be aware that we will focus more and more on the treatment of these cancerous cells rather than on the surgical extirpation of the organ. There are some key areas for the future of the management of genitourinary cancers: genetic polymorphism, the influence of environmental factors, chemoprevention and focal therapies.
For this edition of this cutting-edge meeting, the organising committee has prepared a programme that reflects the state of the art of oncology in urology and places the ESOU meeting as a European reference in the field. With new members in the ESOU Board, this will be a special year. A solid scientific programme has been composed and shall be presented by a high-profile academic body, well known throughout Europe. In addition to the best expertise in urology, this year the ESOU meeting welcomes new formats that will stimulate the scientific debate on a broader field. It will mix round-table discussions, scientific lectures, rapid-fire presentation and specific lectures (European Urology Oncology, ASCO, EAU guidelines), all delivered with an interactive approach.
By attending the ESOU meeting, you will have the opportunity to connect with leading experts, many of whom are key opinion leaders from around the world who are dedicated to resolving clinical challenges and developing new approaches. Your participation will allow you to obtain insights into the most recent developments and showcase your commitment to keeping up to date with the evolution of science.
