MATTER and Salt Flats present Patient Experience 2040, an event series that invites industry leaders working in significantly transformative areas in patient care. In the future, what will care of dementia and Alzheimer’s Disease look like? Today we are only scratching the surface of a multifaceted neurological condition that is estimated to cost ~$350K per year from diagnosis to death. Most of these costs are carried by families that put loved ones in memory care, only to watch the steady march of the disease continue unabated. To date there have been ~4,500 active or completed clinical trials in Alzheimer’s Disease and dementia. New technologies from these trials may enable patient identification for specific treatments and the future may hold new discoveries through AI, machine learning and the internet of things that will drive greater understanding of specific interventions that can improve the patient experience.
