Come along and have a look at some of the exciting research presented by postgraduate students from the Digital Health and Care CDT. Mairi Therese Deighan graduated from the University of Strathclyde with an MEng in Biomedical Engineering in 2020. Her research interests lie primarily in virtual reality technology and its applications in healthcare. Specifically, Mairi is focussed on researching and designing VR applications for teenagers and young adults with cancer. Mairi’s passion for VR technology stemmed from the research experience obtained during her masters degree, where she developed and tested a virtual reality application designed to assess the sound properties of spatialised sound engines. With the overall aim of designing a virtual hearing test for children with single-side deafness. Since then, Mairi has conducted research exploring the use of social virtual reality platforms during the COVID-19 pandemic and is now working with Great Ormond Street Hospital to explore applications of VR within paediatric oncology.
