To renew our awareness of the key principles of clinical medicine with an understanding of the long, proud history and tradition of the annual meeting of the JOA, we adopted "Science and Art" as the main theme for the forthcoming annual meeting.This theme was taken from the words of Sir William Osler, the founder of medical education, "The practice of medicine is an art, based on science." Dr.Masakazu Abe, the 8th President of the Jikei University School of Medicine, defined “the art of medicine” as the integration of medical skills and the spirit of medicine that a physician should have to demonstrate those skills, and consists of four key components: sympathy, compassion, service, and informed consent.We will develop a dedicated program for the annual meeting, including keynote and special lectures related to this them.
