Sequoia Project, AHIMA Launches Data Usability Initiative
The Sequoia Project and AHIMA have jointly launched the "Data Usability Taking Root" initiative, with the aim of enhancing the utility of health data. Eleven prominent organizations, including Epic, Optum, and HCA, have committed to adopting and improving data usability best practices developed over three years by Sequoia's extensive network of over 260 members. The primary focus of this initiative is to render health data more computable and actionable for end users as an integral part of their workflows. Participants have the flexibility to choose their preferred implementation pathways and are provided with technical support and testing assistance by The Sequoia Project. The flagship event of this initiative, the Data Usability Taking Root Summit, is scheduled for September 6, 2023, in Washington, DC, following a series of virtual events throughout the summer. The participating organizations advocate for the integration of data usability into all projects, promoting incremental enhancements over time and dispelling the notion of usability as a standalone health IT project.
