After implementing a virtual video telemedicine model in Stanford Healthcare's emergency department, patients have expressed more satisfaction compared to the standard emergency department, as discussed at the 2024 HIMSS Global Health Conference & Exhibition preconference Virtual Care Forum. Patrice Callagy, the executive director of emergency services at Stanford Healthcare, highlighted the journey's initiation during the COVID era, which prompted the development of a remote communication system for providers. With the creation of a virtual fast-track zone and an emergency department video-visit track-board in the EHR, physicians can efficiently attend to multiple low acuity patients, resulting in faster access to care and increased patient satisfaction.
At the 2024 HIMSS Global Health Conference & Exhibition preconference Virtual Care Forum, representatives from Stanford Healthcare discussed the successful implementation of a virtual video telemedicine model in their emergency department. Led by Patrice Callagy and Sam Shen, the team developed a system allowing remote communication between providers and patients.
