Streamlining Emergency Care with Virtual Video Telemedicine

After implementing a virtual video telemedicine model in Stanford Healthcare's emergency department, patients have expressed more satisfaction compared to the standard emergency department, as discussed at the 2024 HIMSS Global Health Conference & Exhibition preconference Virtual Care Forum. Patrice Callagy, the executive director of emergency services at Stanford Healthcare, highlighted the journey's initiation during the COVID era, which prompted the development of a remote communication system for providers. With the creation of a virtual fast-track zone and an emergency department video-visit track-board in the EHR, physicians can efficiently attend to multiple low acuity patients, resulting in faster access to care and increased patient satisfaction.
