Providers Betting Big on Future of Hospital at Home

In response to the evolving healthcare landscape, providers are increasingly turning to the Hospital at Home (H@H) model as a viable alternative to traditional inpatient care. Mass General Brigham, for instance, aims to transition 10% of its medical patients to home care, citing potential benefits including reduced length of stay and healthcare costs. The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services' (CMS) Acute Hospital Care at Home (AHCAH) initiative has catalyzed this shift, enabling hospitals to provide inpatient-level care in patients' homes. While research underscores the efficacy and cost savings of H@H programs, challenges remain, particularly concerning reimbursement and infrastructure. Efforts to extend CMS waivers and garner legislative support reflect the growing importance of H@H in reshaping healthcare delivery.
