Preventing clinician burnout is an integral part of fostering long-term health system success. But even before COVID-19 hit, healthcare workers struggled against burnout, and the pandemic has only worsened the problem. Among the many concerning findings, “93% of health care workers were experiencing stress, 86% reported experiencing anxiety, 77% reported frustration, 76% reported exhaustion and burnout, and 75% said they were overwhelmed,” the study cites.
Many factors contribute to clinician burnout beyond the capacity of health IT, but technology can play a role in both causing or alleviating the issues. As pressures increased throughout the pandemic, Bill Russell spoke with a number of experts about the dynamics involved and what types of digital solutions can help solve and prevent clinician burnout.
