Patient-Generated Clinical Notes, OpenNotes Yield Patient Satisfaction
More than 90 percent of the healthcare provider participants said having completed OurNotes forms before appointments was a good idea, and 70 percent said they usually or always used patient respondents in their own clinician notes. Just about 90 percent of clinicians said having access to patient-generated OurNotes information helped them save time during the care encounter, or at least did not add to the time it took to treat the patient.
Clinicians did say OurNotes would be easier to use if they got better notifications about completed forms and if it was easier for them to insert patient text into clinician notes. Additionally, clinicians said the system would be better with more patient education about OurNotes.
Meanwhile, OurNotes was also good for the patient experience. Very few patients experienced difficulty filling out the pre-visit OurNotes forms, and about 80 percent said it was not difficult. Just under 70 percent said OurNotes helped them prepare for their medical visits.
