How Health Orgs Can Use Community Health to Pursue Health Equity

The Center for Community Investment (CCI) at the American Hospital Association (AHA) has released a toolkit to help healthcare organizations create community health investment strategies that will address social determinants of health and work towards health equity.

“Investing in Community Health: A Toolkit for Hospitals,” underscores the importance of community investment, also known as place-based investment, as communities begin to recover from COVID-19.

The resource defines community investments as seeking to improve social, economic, and environmental conditions in communities that face social determinants of health, while also producing some economic return for investors.

The toolkit’s six steps outline how healthcare organizations can address health disparities in the long term by creating investment strategies tailored to their community’s specific needs.
