FDA Forms New Digital Health Advisory Committee to Cover Growing Role of Tech

The FDA is establishing a Digital Health Advisory Committee to address the evolving role of technology in healthcare. This committee, expected to become operational in 2024, will focus on emerging technologies like artificial intelligence, virtual reality, and digital therapeutics, as well as subjects such as decentralized clinical trials and patient-generated health data. Comprising nine core voting members, the committee will be supported by temporary members selected for specific meeting topics. The FDA seeks individuals with diverse technical and scientific backgrounds to ensure digital health medical devices cater to a wide range of populations. This move aims to harness external expertise and knowledge, enhancing patient health protection while fostering innovation in digital healthcare. The FDA is accepting member nominations until December 11.
